| Briton Ferry Athletic Afc http://www.geocities.com/kend19452000/ Formed in 1925 and members of the Welsh League since the early 1930s, Briton Ferry Athletic Football Club was one of the founder members of the Welsh League National Division in 1983. Consistent finishes in the top half of the league culminated in the Ferry claiming the runners-up spot in 1991/92. The formation of the club was conceived by a group of young men who had all played local schools football and during that first season, the team was known as Briton Ferry Ex-Schoolboys, becoming Briton Ferry AFC in 1926 when playing in the Swansea & District Football League. Promotion was gained to the second division of the Welsh League in 1932 and, in 1947, promotion to Division One was gained, albeit for one year only. Despite the clubs ups and downs throughout the 1950s and 1960s, it built a fine sporting tradition and produced three full Welsh Internationals in Roy John, Harold Williams and Carl Harris. - Read more |
